Ana Lipps (1997, LT)

You Brake It, You Taste It

We perceive the world through our senses but are thwarted by all sorts of preconceptions about what is real or possible. With her installation, which is far more than meets the eye, Ana Lipps unravels these preconceptions. You see a car with its brake lights on. An alienating tune comes from the car radio. Then you are invited to break off a piece of car window and let it melt in your mouth. It turns out that as our sensory perception changes, so do the building blocks of our reality. That makes it possible to find and take an alternative path to another reality.

Ana Lipps combines objects, photographs, and interactive elements in large-scale installations. In doing so, she trains the eye of viewers, encouraging them to accept floating realities and to symbolically reside in ‘in-between spaces’. In this way, the possibility of change opens. In 2022, Ana earned a master’s degree from the Dirty Art Department of the Sandberg Institute Amsterdam.
