Joshua Serafin (1995, PH)

Void

The main sources of inspiration for Joshua Serafin’s work are the spiritual backgrounds and pre-colonial belief system of Filipino society. The artist focuses on gender identity, which for Joshua is fluid, something often seen in ancient pre-colonial religions. That means there is no rigid division between male and female. ‘Void’ is a 10-minute video work in which we see the birth of a future god, who must live in a mortal world to understand what it means to be a god. The work makes an attempt to rewrite colonial history and speculates about a possible future, by fantasizing about our bodily transformation into gods and goddesses.

Multidisciplinary artist Joshua Serafin, a 2022 graduate of P.A.R.T.S School for contemporary dance in Brussels, combines dance, performance, visual art and choreography.
