WERC is a multidisciplinary art collective from the Netherlands consisting of Olav Huizer, Joachim Rümke and Jelle Valk. The collective focuses on the design and development of (digital) media in relation to art, science and technology. By inverting the word “WERC,” you get “CREW,” a term used in the graffiti scene to designate close groups of different artists. Combining different disciplines and curiosities, WERC is a well-oiled machine that is constantly developing and enthusiastically jumping into new research. In addition to different specialities and interests, the collective has a common fascination, visible in almost all of their works: the connection between digital and physical worlds.

For LUNA, WERC presents a new work: Backlight. By means of generative, spatial sound and LED screens from repurposed phones, they build their own world in a regular parking lot. The location is transformed into a mystical space, at once impressive and subtle.
