The Media Art Friesland Foundation presents contemporary art to a broad and diverse audience in Leeuwarden. The main activity of the foundation is the yearly Media Art Festival (MAF). Our primary focus is on talent development and the presentation of national and international upcoming talents. We offer a creative space to experiment and offer exposure to artists and look for new collaborations with institutional partners.
Since 2016, we’ve expanded our line of work to the public space with the LUNA Leeuwarden Urban Night Adventure. We present light, sound- and performance art of artists from the region and of prominent international artists in numerous places in the beautiful city centre of Leeuwarden, reaching a very large and diverse audience.
Besides these large events we are present throughout the year with smaller initiatives, workshops and collaboration projects, also at international locations. Cultural institutions, companies and artists regularly call on our expertise for advice and concept development. We are happy to assist regional artists in finding international partners and many organisations and European initiatives know to find us as a collaborative partner.

The objective of the Media Art Friesland Foundation is to promote, initiate and organize cultural events in the field of media art, as well as to perform all other activities in so far as they are related to or can be conducive to the above, all in the broadest sense.
Our core activity is organizing the annual Media Art Festival (MAF). This consists of the Young Masters exhibition with works by 15 talented young artists. Around this we offer a program of workshops, film evenings and other activities for a wide audience. An essential and vital part of the activity program is the offer for schools that we provide in cooperation with Kunstkade. Children of all ages receive classroom tours and workshops in which they create their own media art. Part of MAF is also an annual theme program with discussions and presentations that we organize in cooperation with other cultural institutions and Northern colleges. With the LUNA Leeuwarden Urban Night Adventure we make the step into the public space during MAF for three evenings, where we present large-scale and low-threshold light and sound art. Throughout the year, the Media Art Friesland team also organizes individual projects and workshops in the field of media art throughout Friesland and internationally.
Media Art Friesland works with independent entrepreneurs and freelancers for organization, production and PR. All remunerations of team members are based on the salary structure of sector organization De Zaak Nu. For artists the guideline artist fees is followed.
